Sustainable Clothing From the Isle of Wight: Meet Easy Ways Readers
This is a first here at Easy Ways to Go Green. We have found a great company, the Rapanui Clothing company in the UK on the Isle of Wight, and we invited them to introduce themselves to our readers. They seem like a bunch of really friendly people who have put together something they love, something we all need, and something that is responsible in terms of its planet-mindedness.
“Rapanui is a small business based on the Isle of Wight, southern England. We are a fashion company with a difference, in that we are an eco-fashion company. Rapanui was set up by brothers Mart and Rob Drake-Knight in early 2008; the brothers are now aged 23 and 25 respectively. The company was set up with £200 of their own savings. Through surfing, they saw and experienced the changing environment and climate at their local beach and as inspired, unemployed graduates in a recession, they took a different path; if you can’t find a job, make one. The aim at Rapanui still is to inform through the brand and mix eco with trend – to make it fashionable for people to go green.”
Eco Fashion at Rapanui: The Concept of Traceability
“At Rapanui we make our clothes a bit differently, we use Natural, Organic fabrics, Renewable Energy powered factories and Ethical, Fair labour: Better for our environment, our climate and our people.” It’s what the brothers call “Traceability.”
“Classic computer games and overpopulation inspired this organic tee, which with a pop-art colour scheme promises to add some vibrancy to summer. One of our fastest selling men’s organic tees, all the items are made from organic and sustainable materials and some ma surprise you especially a t-shirt made from bamboo, which is ever so soft. And there are more cool designs with hidden meanings in the Men’s Organic Clothing section.”
“This Bamboo sleeveless top is the comfiest, lightest and most breathable item in the women’s collection. The bamboo fabric has a silky feel of softness like no other. This may be the softest top you’ll ever wear. This Bamboo sleeveless top was made in a Fairwear Foundation Audited factory, embroidered and hand-finished on the Isle of Wight.”
