Ways You Can Save Energy in the Home
Having a green home and getting your green energy through services like http://www.compareelectricratesintexas.com is all well and good, but how do you avoid energy waste? There are a few things you can do to help minimize energy waste, and below we’ve listed just a few.
1. Turn Off the Lights. Pretty basic, but this rule isn’t meant for you the adult, it’s meant for your children. Kids can have a nasty habit of leaving lights on in rooms they are no longer occupying, and that can add up by the end of the month. If your children have trouble remembering to turn off the lights, there are also motion-detecting switches.
2. Remember to Turn Off the TV. You would be surprised how easy it is to fall asleep while watching television, especially if it’s the bedroom television. Always make sure to turn it off when you are a done, and if you are one of those people who are prone to falling asleep while watching – then set the sleep timer.
3. Use the Grill Instead of the Stove. When it gets warmer outside and you need to cook up some meat, consider using the grill instead of the electric stove. A tank of propane or a bag of charcoal can be a lot cheaper in the long run.
4. Turn Down the Air Conditioning. When it gets hotter, you need the air conditioner, but mostly during the day. If you are turning in for the night, chances are it has gotten a lot cooler and you can stand to turn down the AC and save on energy.
And those are just a few ideas to get you started. Part of living the green lifestyle doesn’t just mean recycling in your home and purchasing biodegradables – it also means minimizing ALL waste including electric.
